Emily Kelly

Graphic Designer and Artist with a knack for conceptualizing and a love of typography, currently based in Boulder, Colorado.

I love to write and think and do things with those thinkings. My practice has always been influenced by the fascination I have between the world and oneself, paired with the seen and unseen notion of tactility. I look forward to what can come of this if things are shaped just a little differently, and with a little more intent.

I thoroughly enjoy exploring the conceptual nature of a given subject, where ideas are free of form until they unfold, and am most excited about the opportunity to communicate ideas that can inspire others to think—and if lucky enough—do.

A State of Being
2019

Some of my favorite projects in college turned out to be the ones that pushed me to think outside of what I didn’t know I already knew, and to explore what could be… ever so simply. The assignment was to write and visualize a design manifesto in three mediums, one visual being entirely of our choosing.

A State of Being
aims to bring attention to the transparency between design reality and our reality—being aware of yourself and the world around you, internally and externally, impacts both.

It warms my heart to think about the sheer passion and call to action I felt when expressing my thoughts—entirely unaware of the person I’d grow into, and continue to learn from today (writing this in 2023!). Reading it back, I kind of giggle at how sure I was with my words while being entirely unsure, and new to the fine line between art and design.

Just be.
