Emily Kelly

Graphic Designer and Artist with a knack for conceptualizing and a love of typography, currently based in Boulder, Colorado.

I love to write and think and do things with those thinkings. My practice has always been influenced by the fascination I have between the world and oneself, paired with the seen and unseen notion of tactility. I look forward to what can come of this if things are shaped just a little differently, and with a little more intent.

I thoroughly enjoy exploring the conceptual nature of a given subject, where ideas are free of form until they unfold, and am most excited about the opportunity to communicate ideas that can inspire others to think—and if lucky enough—do.

Art Parts
Jan 2024 - Present

*Full brand refresh live soon, stay tuned!*

Art Parts is a non-profit creative reuse center based in Boulder, Colorado. Art Part’s mission is to inspire and promote creativity, resource conservation, and community engagement through reuse.

I’ve had the privilege to create a complete refresh across main logotypes, brand guides, print + digital assets—and am currently in the process of bringing their new website to life.

When I moved to Boulder in 2023, I Googled the word “art” for some exploration. Next thing I knew, I was paying less than $5 for a BUNDLE of chartpaks, assorted papers, wood blocks, mini tiles and some metal bits. What stuck with me? How happy I was, and the likelihood of my treasures being in a landfill if not for initiatives as such.

It’s Wack Out There
2022

It’s Wack Out There is about the value of art in our everyday lives and the importance of compensating individuals for their talents—on a T-shirt. Inspired by a potential client being a potential client, I took to instagram to rant about it.

What ensued next was really funny tbh, but eye opening because despite knowing the feeling is generally mutual amongst those in creative professions, my peers felt compelled enough to respond and voice their opinions as well.

letfliesfly.com
2020

Working with a small team of FIT GD alumni, we sought to create a virtual home for the Graphic Design BFA program @ The Fashion Institute of Technology—letfliesfly.com

I lent a heavy hand in the branding, copywriting, creative direction, design, development, and project management.

Check out what the web-hosting platform, Cargo Collective, had to say about the site here

ITTCYL
2023

“Imagine trying to curate your life.”—a thought I jotted down in September of 2022. The thought stemmed mainly from the assumption that it must be so exhausting trying to play a part—be a facade—exist for aesthetics—etc.

In person or online, I came to realize that whether we realize it or not, we’re all curated in some way, by something, by someone—for everyone.

From here, I thought about ten things that’ve curated my sense of self over the last few years of my life, and reflected on their varying importance in my existence.

Aer Intimates
2020 - 2023

Aer Intimates (2020), now Verdant Intimates (2023), is an NYC based luxury intimates brand focused on sophistication and quality fit. In 2020, the founders approached me to create their main logotypes, associated preliminary brand guidelines, stationery, and packaging mockups.

At the beginning of 2023, the name changed and the brand redirected. I was then approached to create a new logo utilizing the initial loved direction.

NYM Merch Drop
2023

Social media asset design, Instagram posts + stories, for TikTok native comic, Jake Shane. Working with influencer agency, Homemade Projects, I was tasked with creating graphics reminiscent of your favorite (or maybe least favorite!) pop culture magazine of the 2010s. Think Tiger Beat, J-14, Twist—the list goes on.

The NYM, meaning acronym, merch drop revolved around a few nyms Jake, his friends, and fans frequent; and the joyous hype a themed drop like this would bring to his community. It was awesome to dive back into my middle school state of mind to bring this project to life. Funny how things can some full circle!

PURSUIT
2019

PURSUIT is a typographic exploration into the British bred band, The 1975. For the lyric book, I used Apple Garamond to compliment the grounding nature of the band, and focused on the relationship between the feeling and texture their lyrics/instrumentals evoke.

The lyric book features three typographic lyric translations per each respective studio album — The 1975 (2013), ILIWYSFYASBYSUOI (2016), ABIIOR (2018).
